Spanish Open
WOW - were do I even begin!?
The competition was an amazing experience as we got to compete against Spain's olympic team, which put us in second position for all three events. We held our second placing strong as the country in third position for each event was a far reach behind! Our team had great enthusiasm and positive energy throughout the three days of competition, we couldn't be more proud of our performances and podium finishes!
Following the competition, four of my teammates and me travelled for a week. We stayed an extra day on the island of Palma de Mallorca to experience the beautiful beaches before heading to Ibiza for two nights and Madrid for another three.
After almost 24 hours of travelling, I arrived home in Kitchener around 5pm last night and was reunited with the Kowalski family! Tonight we are having a big dinner to celebrate my success and my return home for summer holidays. Our team has the full month of July to spend with our families at home before we start next seasons training. Looking forward to a wonderful summer!
Enjoy!

SPAIN
The day has arrived! We had one final practice this morning from 6:30-9:30, our routines are looking GREAT. Now, its time for some last minute errands and packing before I head to the airport this afternoon. Destination: Palma de Mallorca, Spain!
The Spanish Open runs from June 22nd-24th. After the competition, myself and four other teammates are travelling for an additional week to both Madrid and Ibiza. It will be a great way to celebrate all our hard work this year and our successful performances at the competition.
I will do my best to post updates throughout the week during our competition!
Stay tuned...

Olympic Send off Show
This morning our team as well as our Canadian Olympic team, Jr. National soloist and duet and 13-15 soloist participated in an "Olympic send off show" at the Olympic Stadium here in Montreal! An audience of over 1000 people came out to cheer on our Canadian swimmers and enjoy the spectacular performances. Our Canadian olympic team leaves tomorrow for a 2 month training camp in Spain prior to their arrival in London, England for the 2012 Olympic Games! GOOD LUCK LADIES! :)
On another note - our team, the National B team is headed to Palma de Mallorca, Spain this Monday evening to compete in the Spanish Open from June 22nd-24th. We have ONE final practice left on Monday morning before we head to the airport. Our team is SUPER excited and we feel more than prepared going into our competition! We had very successful performances this morning at the show and we were lucky to have a BIG bus full of KW Synchro fans from my hometown of Kitchener! Thank you SO much to all the swimmers, parents and coaches who travelled from Kitchener, Ontario to cheer us on and support our team! We were also lucky to have the opportunity to swim with the girls from KW synchro following the show. They showed us their beautiful routines and we assisted them in a few highlights and technical skills!
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL MY LOCAL FANS FROM KW SYNCHRO - YOU GUYS ROCK!

Trials are complete!
The 2012 Centre of Excellence trials are finished. This morning we had just two short hours at the pool to complete a final skills test. I am happy with how I preformed these past four days in trials and feel very confident that I have achieved successful results.
After this mornings work at the pool our whole team went out for a celebratory breakfast at "Dans La Bouche", a delicious restaurant in the Plateau of Montreal! I ordered a beautiful plate of french toast topped with caramelized apples! It was a tasty way to treat ourselves after four straight days of national team trials.
Now that trials is complete we can focus on our final practices before we leave for Spain. We have regular practice Wednesday-Friday and then a watershow this Saturday. The countdown begins... 6 days until our departure to Spain!!

Day two of trials complete!
Today, all athletes participated in three strength and endurance tests.
The first test was maximum burpee reps in 30 seconds, the second test was maximum push ups in 60 seconds, and the final test was... the beep test! For those of you who are not familiar with the "beep test" it is an endurance/cardio test where you must run back and forth within a specific range and reach each side before the "beep" goes off!
Following this mornings testing our team had a short combo practice... we must keep up with our routines as we are leaving for Spain in just 8 days!
After all that tough work this morning, it is safe to say that my body feels like jello this evening!
Two more days of trials to go! :)

Centre of Excellence Trials
Well, day one of trials is complete!
It was a long day at the pool from 9-2pm where we performed and competed in the individual free swim component in front of all the centre of excellence coaches and two Canadian judges. Immediately following the individual free team swim we executed each tech team element to counts.
Before my swim and during warm up this morning I felt super confident, excited and anxious all at the same time! I was happy with how I performed today and I cannot wait to see what I can do tomorrow :)
On the schedule for tomorrow are the strength and endurance tests on land!

Centre Trials and Watershow
Two weeks left until the annual Centre of Excellence trials begin! I am fully prepared both mentally and physical going into the selection and feel confident that I will hold my position from the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
After the trials, our team will be performing in a water show on June 16th at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal to show off our routines before we leave for our competition in Spain. The water show also includes performances from the Olympic A team as well as routines from the junior and 13-15 national team. My home club of KW Synchro will be sending a bus full of athletes, coaches and parents to Montreal to attend the show in support of our Canadian teams! Thank you so much to everyone who was involved in organizing this bus trip (including my supermom Mrs Lori Kowalski), your support is much appreciated and we cannot wait to see all your faces in the crowd cheering us on!
See you soon.

Bad news - change of plans!
Unfortunately we found out earlier this week that the Brazil Open competition has been cancelled. We will no longer be going to Brazil the last week of June.
HOWEVER, we are looking into another competition in Spain which is being held a week earlier than the Brazil competition was originally scheduled. Fingers are crossed that everything works out!
Take care!

Family time
Well, I am officially 20 years old! This year is going by too quickly..
This week my sister and mom are in Montreal to visit. My mom arrived this past Sunday and my sister just arrived this morning after her flight was delayed 45minutes in Waterloo due to fog! I am so happy to be spending time with my Kowalski ladies as I will not be able to travel back home to Kitchener until Easter long weekend.
After a few nights of tasting delicious restaurants in Montreal and cooking some gourmet homecooked meals, its time to take my sister and my mom to explore the shops and activities here in Montreal this weekend! I hope this weekend never ends..!!

This and that
Well, still no news on our training schedule for this season. So far the only event confirmed is our National Team Trials at the end of May, the official date has yet to be announced.
School is quickly picking up with midterm exams just around the corner! It is nice to have an easy going training schedule at this point in the year because it allows me to focus more on my studies.
January is coming to an end. This month our goal was to get ourselves back into shape both on land and in the pool. We have worked hard on our flexability, core strength, endurance, and basic skills this month. We have also started to introduce ourselves to tech team and elements again as this event was not incuded in our previous World Trophy competition, and therefore we have not trained them in a while!
Next up in February: my moms birthday, my sisters birthday and... my birthday!! On February 19th I will be turning 20 years old. Wow, I can't believe my teenaged years are almost over!!

Back to the pool!
Well, the holidays are over.. Its time to splash back in the pool and crack open those university textbooks!
This was our first week back after our 21 day break for the holidays. It feels great to be back at practice and to see all my teammates again, who are basically my second family! Yes, even though we spend every waking moment with one another, we still miss eachother during the holidays! :)
I had a wonderful time back home in Kitchener spending time with my friends and family. It allowed me to take a break from all the hard work at the pool to just relax and enjoy myself. My favourtie part of the holidays was all the creative baking and cooking I did! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays as much as I did :)
Now that we have returned to the pool, our main focus is to re-build our strength and endurance to prepare for this years journeys. Our competition and training schedule for this year has not yet been established. Stay tuned!!
Take care.

Home Sweet Home
WOW - what an amazing experience in Beijing, China. The past two weeks has been a GREAT success for Canada, we owned the podium! I hope everyone got a chance to watch our routines live from the FINA World Trophy competition through Synchro Canada's website. If you missed our swims, be sure to log onto their site as the events are still available to watch! www.synchro.ca
The first event of the competition was the Acrobatic routine where we placed FOURTH overall, also placing FOURTH in the duet event that followed. However, we were extremely eager to capture a podium finish in our other two routines. We pulled off a BRONZE medal performance after the free team event, following Spain and China. We were ahead of the Russians by almost 3 points after being defeated by them in the acrobatic event the previous day. In combo we had another AMAZING swim which captured us the SILVER, behind Spains Olympic team and ahead of China!
Overall with the combined scores of each of our 4 routines, we placed THIRD. Our team was congratulated with a small glass trophy at the closing banquet.
Following the competition, we had the opportunity to tour China for an additional 2 days. We got to see the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Silk Market, and much more! It was quite an adventure and a memorable experience I will be sure to never forget!
Now I am home in Canada, returning home to Kitchener at the end of this week to enjoy my Christmas holidays until I return again in the new year!
